This project was a transformation in personality from a bland 1995 house with large scaled rooms and little detail to a charming family home featuring hand hewn beams, soaring wood ceilings, beautiful natural oak floors and a massive knotty, white oak island generating plenty of character. The Scandinavian theme inspired by the homeowner, desired a lighter, more airy feel that also included strong wood tones. We decided on the darker ceilings and casings with the contrast of the lighter beams to give the large spaces a more intimate feel. The removal of the entire wall separating the Dining Room from the Kitchen was a redefining for the entire first floor offering a now fully open concept plan. The addition of the beams redefined the spaces and offered the missing character details.
The two story Entry features Hand Hewn Beams added at the Vestibule and custom designed railings to add immediate drama. Through the Vestibule you can see the glass wall that was added replacing a standard slider to furnish light and invite the landscape into the living space. As the Great Room opens up the soaring wood ceilings add a grand statement and embrace the large stone fireplace. At the top of the steps you will finds a sliding bookcase behind which storage is found.
The Master Bedroom now features a fireplace wall replacing the blank one. The white oak material on the fireplace integrate with the vanity cabinetry in the Master Bath. Note the glass tile apron at the luxurious soaking tub.
The lower level of the home offers a large family room and is characterized by a more rustic mountain feel as shown in the barnwood cabinetry in the Bar and Guest Bath. The transom window in the Guest Bath was a small addition but made a huge impact on the room.
